Most of the work in running a building is not watching values but explaining them: why a room is warm, why a chiller tripped, which alarm matters. Version 11 of the Automated Logic® WebCTRL® system puts its biggest change there, with a new way to trace a problem to its cause, and adds a set of smaller improvements for operators, administrators and engineers.

TrailGuide: from symptom to cause

When a room runs warm, the cause is rarely in the room. It may be the air-handling unit that serves it, the chilled-water valve on that unit, or the chiller plant further upstream. TrailGuide shows how the building’s systems are related and puts the key information about each one in the same view, so an operator can follow the chain from the symptom to its most likely cause.

  • Follow relationships through the user tree, the networks and the linkages between equipment.
  • See the selected type of relationship as a map.
  • Retrace your steps with a path history of the items you have visited.
  • Access follows each operator’s privileges, as it does everywhere else in WebCTRL.

Alarms: fewer clicks, less noise

Three changes make alarms easier to manage on large sites.

  • Bulk actions in the Alarm Summary. Acknowledge or delete the alarms shown in the current view in one step. The audit log records a short summary instead of one entry per alarm.
  • Temporary alarm action suppression. During maintenance or a fault investigation, alarm actions such as emails can be suppressed for a location and everything below it. The system shows where suppression is active, and a report lists suppressions so they can be reviewed and cleared.
  • Clearer alarm actions. Each action can have a descriptive title, existing actions can be copied, and actions can be filtered by type, such as email or database.

Operators and security

  • A search filter finds operators by name in long operator lists.
  • An existing operator can be duplicated to create a new one with the same privileges and settings.
  • Privilege sets (roles) can be duplicated, renamed and assigned, so new roles start from ones that already work.
  • Entries from the core log can be sent to Syslog, so IT teams can monitor WebCTRL alongside their other systems.

For engineers: graphics and programming

  • Common symbols in ViewBuilder. A graphic component, such as a logo or an indicator, is stored once and used in many views. Change it once and every view that uses it updates.
  • Pipe Tool in ViewBuilder. Pipes and ducts are drawn as paths on the canvas instead of being assembled from separate images. They can be edited after drawing and can change appearance with an expression, for example to show hot or chilled water.
  • Find and Replace in SiteBuilder. Bulk changes across reference names, display names, addresses, nodes and device instances, with much faster handling of large projects.
  • EIKON math microblocks. Add, And, Or and Multiply now take up to 50 inputs, so a single microblock can replace a long chain with the same runtime behaviour. Unit types have also been added to microblocks that lacked them, such as network and parameter microblocks.

What it means for your site

If your building runs WebCTRL 9, support ends on 30 November 2027, so the upgrade belongs in your 2027 budget. Sites on WebCTRL 10 are supported until 30 November 2028. Goldmarktech can check what an upgrade involves for your site, from the server to your custom graphics, and plan the switch-over with your team.
