SMAC temperature and humidity control
In Thailand’s climate, a large share of cooling energy goes into drying outdoor air. SMAC dries the outdoor air and cools the return air separately, and controls both as one system.

Why separate humidity from temperature
A conventional air-handling unit cools air until it is cold enough to give up its moisture. The air is then colder than the room needs, so it is either reheated or the room is overcooled. Either way, the energy is spent twice.
SMAC splits the job. One coil takes moisture out of the outdoor air; another takes heat out of the return air. The SMAC controller balances the two to hold temperature, humidity and pressure where the space needs them, and uses less energy doing it.
Results in Thailand
SMAC DX systems in Thailand, including a gas-pipeline control building and several commercial and industrial sites, have cut energy use by more than 30%. The savings were verified under IPMVP Option B by a third-party Performance Measurement and Verification Analyst (PMVA).
Hospitals use SMAC dedicated outdoor-air units to keep humidity under control in clinical spaces. At one Bangkok teaching hospital, a fifth unit is now in design.
Delivered with Carrier
SMAC is developed by SMAC Technologies of Australia. In Thailand, Goldmarktech provides SMAC application engineering and controls, working with Carrier as the equipment partner.
Model it before you buy it
Every SMAC project starts with an energy model.
The SMAC Energy Modeller simulates a building hour by hour over a full weather year. It compares 23 air-conditioning processes, SMAC among them, side by side on energy use, humidity, mould risk, comfort and carbon, so the case for SMAC is made with your building’s own numbers.
The modeller is open to engineers and consultants. Accounts are approved by Goldmarktech; ask us for one if you do not have it yet.
Where SMAC fits
Spaces where humidity, not heat, drives the cooling load.
- Hospitals Operating theatres, wards and other clinical spaces that need steady humidity.
- Control rooms and laboratories Rooms where equipment or experiments need tight conditions around the clock.
- Galleries, archives and libraries Collections that are damaged by damp air.
- Offices and industrial buildings Buildings with high outdoor-air rates, where drying the air is a large part of the cooling bill.
